Tags as searchable sub labels
When should you use a Tag instead of a Bucket?
Think of Buckets as categories of time. Place a contact in a Bucket if you want to follow up with that contact on a repeated basis. For example, a past client goes in the Past Clients Bucket because you want to keep in touch for repeat business and referral opportunities.
Think of Tags as details that identify contacts for the purposes of pulling lists. For example, you might tag a current client with the Tag "Referred by [name]" so that at the end of the year you can easily pull a list of all referred leads and see which people in your network referred you the most business.
A good rule of thumb is to create a Bucket if you want reminders to regularly follow up with that group of people and a Tag if you simply want to be able to generate a list of contacts with a specific identifier.
You can tag contacts:
- Via the contact sidebar
- Via the contact profile
- Via the Contacts page
How to tag contacts
Via the contact sidebar
When viewing the contact in the sidebar, scroll down to the Tags section. Click on the X to remove, and the "Add" button to add existing Tags or to type in the box to create a new Tag.
On the contact's profile page
When viewing a contact profile, click "Edit Tags" to bring up the list of Tags. You may add or remove Tags.
On the Contacts tab
When viewing the Contacts page, click on the dropdown under the "Tags" column for an individual contact to edit it. Or, select the checkbox(es) next to the contact(s) you want to edit, click on "More Options..." on the bar at the bottom of the screen, and select Tags. You may both add and remove Tags this way, or type in the box to create a new tag.
